Here's a great thing we all need to know how to do... upholstery!  This little how to is brought to up from our friends over at Design*Sponge (I heart them).  Now, Amanda does an amazing job on this sweet (sweet) chair, what I really need help with is a sofa.  Hmmm... is it easier to do it yourself, or is it just better to send it out to a professional?

I saw this on Making Memories blog and thought it was fabulous!  You could do this for ANY holiday!!!  I'll be making one of these, for sure.  If you have kids, this is a great project to get them involved in.  Follow the link for MM step by step (they even have a link to the artist blog where she has a video) instructions... or see below for the quick 411 to this spooky beauty.

To create this project you will need the following supplies:

Halloween paper and embellishments
Styrofoam wreath

Paper trimmer
Scissors
Lollipop Sticks
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Pencil

Follow these instructions to create this seasonal wreath:

1. Tie ribbon (for hanging) to the wreath.

2. Cut 1/4" strips of different Making Memories’ patterned papers and wrap each strip tightly around a pencil to curl. Create about 80 curled strips to start the project then cut and curl more as needed to complete the wreath.

3. Using a hot glue gun, hot glue curled strips of paper, one at a time, to the Styrofoam wreath. Hot glue each curl up-close to the one prior. The curls should be at different angles to each other, not aligned.

4. Keep adding curls until the wreath is covered (front, inner side, and outer side of wreath – but not the back).

5. Cut lollipop sticks in half, then hot glue the sticks to the backs of Making Memories’ die-cut labels, felt embellishments, and stickers. Insert sticks randomly into the wreath. Add hot glue if needed to keep sticks in place. Tie ribbon to some sticks if you like.

6. Cut large circle out of scalloped die-cut paper, sized larger than the base of the wreath, then glue paper to the back-side of the wreath.

7. Hot glue additional curls to the wreath if needed so that none of the Styrofoam can be seen from the sides or front.

Here's the best idea I've seen for kitchen drawers I've ever seen! Check out Kim's handy work from The Twice Remembered Cottage. I just love smart, artsy people! Here's her blog post:

Oh, here's a little something I've been meaning to do for quite a while - lining the kitchen drawers with old book pages! Of all the things to hold me up, it was mainly the fact that I couldn't find just the right book. I finally found a vintage Emily Post Etiquette book that suited this little project perfectly! I used the chapters of the book that related to food and entertaining...

I love all the illustrations that explain how to fold napkins, how to create proper place settings, and the best way to set up buffet tables...

For this project, you simply carefully tear the pages out of the book, apply white glue to the back of each page with a sponge brush or foam roller, and press into place, taking care to press out any bubbles. Let it dry overnight and then seal it with two or three coats of clear non-yellowing latex sealer. {I still have to do that step but it's very important to protect those old pages.}

I think it just adds 'a little something nice' to a usually ignored part of the kitchen. Who knew opening kitchen drawers could be so sweet? Now I kind of wish I didn't have to put anything back in them!

This will definitely be something I will do to our kitchen. It's just too cute not to do.

Ideas for Fall

The Lettered Cottage - Ideas for Fall

Layla and Kevin have inspired me, again, with this beautiful yet simple autumn mantle.  What I love about it is that it's clean, it's simple and it could see you from late September through November.  For October, all you would have to do is add a few pumpkins and you would be set.  I checked my local TJ Maxx and couldn't find the wheat bundles... so if you happen to see any, let me know where, because I want a pair.  I really do want Layla and Kevin to come play at my house.  Layla loves kitties and I have a sweet one :)

I'm back...

So, Buddy and I took a little vacation to the North Georgia mountains (Helen, GA to be exact) for some hiking by day and Oktoberfesting by night.  It was wonderful!  It was sad packing to come home, but isn't that the sign of a good vacation?

I did manage to get a little antique shopping in at one of my favorite antique shops... well, it's the only one I've even gone to in Helen, but still, it's my favorite.  It's this huge, old house (built in 1875... I think... late 1800s I know for sure) and it has something like 40 different antique vendors inside.  Well, I found a few things for the house that I couldn't leave Helen without.

Yep, I found some milk glass and I have great plans for these two pretty pieces.  I'm going to use them on my mantle during the winter holidays... fill them with evergreens and pine cones.  Stay tuned and I'll show you some pictures.  When we aren't in a holiday mood, I think I may use them in my scrapbooking/stamping... arts & crafts room to store stamps and buttons in. 

I'm still on the hunt for a few other milk glass pieces, but I think this was a good start.  This now brings my collection to a whopping three pieces!  Just look at them... aren't they great!

And this is my new discovery/love... vintage match box holders.  I love the yellow-gold color of this one.  "You Can't Match The Quality of McCormack Deering Machines Or Our Repair Service M. Paul Whitenight 720 Market Street Bloomburg, Penna."  I love the pun... you can't match the quality...

And I couldn't pass this one up, simply because it states: Furniture and Undertaking  for a square deal try us J.J. Hayes  Furniture and Undertaking!  I love it!!!  Talk about multi-tasking.  This one is missing it's top and will be perfect in the kitchen, under our bottle opener (to catch the bottle caps).  The antique store had a few more that I would have loved to have gotten, but I was good... I figured if they were still there next year, it was meant for me to have them.  How's that for showing restraint!

Oddly, getting these match box holders really make me want to dive into that kitchen make-over!  Funny how the little things can serve as great inspiration.

OK, I'm on a roll today, here's a pic of another really cute kitchen, but more than anything, it's the print that caught my eye.  I know a lot of people are getting really tired of the Keep Calm and Carry On posters, but I happen to love them... and this poster/print is one for my husband... Keep Calm and Eat Bacon.  It's perfect.  We are always saying things like... you know what would make this sandwich better?  Bacon!  You know what would make this salad better?  Bacon!  You know what would make this ice-cream better?  Bacon!  Everything is better with bacon.  :)

Have you been over to My Sweet Savannah yet?  I love her blog!  It's one I check out daily, because she always (ALWAYS) post such inspiring pictures... whether it be photographs she has taken or pictures she has found on the Internet.  Well, today I'm just borrowing her post, because I loved every pictures she posted.  Inspiring spaces... indeed!

Love this Eames chair and vintage desk!!!  first chance I get, I'm making a frame like that... without the gilding, because I'm not a gilding kind of girl, but I love that idea... isn't it fabulous!

I love the stacks of silver platters in this kitchen... and all of the bird cages... very quirky, but I like it!

I love this fire... box?  How cool is that!
